How to Announce Your Website Makeover
How to Announce Your Website Makeover
So you've got a new website. Congratulations! After 3 decades of experience with technology projects, I know there is nothing quite like busting a bottle of Champagne across your monitor to launch your new site. Before you take out a full page ad in the paper, or send out a blanket email blast of a billion of your close (im)personal friends, here is something to consider. 100_0498If your precious baby was a new car instead of a website, would you let everyone know by; A - Driving down the street honking the horn while leaning out the window shouting "Hey, look at my new car!" or B - Would you drive slowly down the street in front of your posse's hangout and wait until they beg you for a ride? I'm thinking you would be cool and choose plan B. I know you sweated bullets getting your site up and running, but trust me, your prospects and loyal customers really don't care. If you really want to score some points with your crowd, don't tell them not why it's new, tell them why it's better. I just launched fcaafl.org and didn't even mention it was brand new. Here are some tips you can use to create value for your site visitor.
  • Invite people to your site to sample specific new content so they can experience that "New car smell".
  • Publish a coupon on the site that they can redeem for a special limited time offer.
  • Invite them to visit the site to view photos of the special event (especially if It's one they missed).
  • Invite them to visit your site to access a list of links to information and sites they would find valuable.
Those are a few ideas that come to mind. I'm sure some of you have other tips and tricks you've used to promote your website makeover. I invite you to add a comment below about what has worked for you. (Editors Note: That's my brother Lee's restored 1954 Dodge Hemi, Indy 500 pacecar. Pretty cool huh?)
