The song title Auld Lang Syne is not a forward-looking statement. In What's the Deal With Auld Lang Syne? blogger David Tomar says that the song "evokes an undeniable sentimentality, a disorienting nostalgia, an instantaneous affection for the people around you at that exact moment; loved ones and strangers alike."
So go ahead, squeeze out the last ounce of cheer from 2013. As for me, I can't wait to get started on 2014. My clients had a great 2013. I just can't wait any longer to see what's going to happen next.
