June 1st marks the beginning of hurricane season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's 2008 Atlantic hurricane season outlook indicates a very high 75% chance of an above-normal hurricane season. They predict a range of 13-17 named storms, 7-10 hurricanes, and 3-5 major hurricanes [categories 3-4-5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale]. After a calm season last year the fear is complacency among residents of the Southeast US.
