I've conducted extensive research this year on all things digital. After gathering all the data, measuring everything analyzing traffic, likes, comments, and follows I've one inescapable conclusion. In 2014 your technology will still change at 8:15 each morning.
As we take a break to catch our breath before the new year it's time to make a choice. You can either reject or embrace technology. Yes it's easy to whine and moan about the search algorithm at Google, the loss of the Activity section on your LinkedIn profile or lament the state of your Klout score.
For Me, I Choose to Change
You are reading the final weekly edition of my newsletter Making Websites Work. Starting on Thursday January 2nd email subscribers will receive the first monthly edition of Making Your Technology Work. Let me be clear,
I won't be writing less, I'll be writing more.
The monthly publishing schedule will allow me to provide a longer, in-depth view of technology trends. It will be more about value than frequency.
Not a subscriber? You can still catch my thoughts and opinions here on my blog. The posts will simply be shorter and appear more frequent. A quick read from your smartphone.
No More Middle Ground
I spent 2013 trying to cover both ends while standing in the middle. I've learned that a t-shirt with the label "One Size Fits Most" fits no one. I intend to custom tailor my writing to each of you. I want to make sure you look good while you leverage the power of technology each day.
Not Anti-social, Just Focused
The "Feature" of Copy/Paste is a digital abomination. Never in human history have so many people, put forth so little effort to create so much crappy content. Simply adding a fancy background to an inspiring quotation from a dead person doesn't make it inspiring. Social "sharing" doesn't create value for your readers or for your street cred. Yes it makes you more visible, Is that the embodiment of your vision?
Goodbye Google +, no more face time on Facebook. I'm in business and I choose to focus on my business network. I'm not killing any of my social accounts. No more copy/paste from one profile to the next. It's just time to get busy with LinkedIn. That's where you will find me.
Your New Year Starts on January 2nd
Thursday afternoon I'm investing 18 minutes in your success. My clients experienced tremendous growth in their reach, impact and revenue in 2013. Did you? That was just the rehearsal. If crushing it in 2014 makes sense to you,
contact me and I'll make sure you get an invitation. I'll share where you need to be heading. After the 18 minutes I'll hang out with you and answer you technology questions.
Happy Holidays
Jerry
